Guest blogging series: 5 makeup tips for crazy mornings

Being a mother, wife, housekeeper, chef, dog walker, oh and business owner/makeup artist of Kiss n’ Makeup Artistry by Geysha, my mornings are by no means joyful. When you are a busy woman with nearly zero time for yourelf, the idea of finding the time to do your makeup is stressful!  We are constantly reminded of how flawless celebrity moms like Kim Kardashian look on daily basis and it doesn’t help! Well, NEWS FLASH ladies! Celebs like Kim K have a team of 5 people and has 4 hours a day to get all glammed up like that!  I’m sorry, but I have no time for that- and who does?! As a makeup artist for nearly 9 years, I have finally found my makeup solution for my crazy mornings! In 10 minutes I can achieve my version of “glammed up”. Here are my quick (and inexpensive!) makeup tips for not only my working mommies out there, but for all fierce hard working women!

1. BB Creams

You see the commercial, but what are they?! BB creams are all the new rave now. I had to try them for myself to really understand why! For quick skin coverage without the feeling of heavy foundation, especially in the summer time, these formulas are great to use! A favorite cream of mine is the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream. The multitasking tinted cream formula has SPF 35 for sun protection, moisturizes, primes, perfects, and controls oil for flawless skin on set and beyond. This BB Cream gives skin a glowing look.

I recommend trying different brands to find one that best suits your skin type. Pro tip: If you are at Sephora or Ulta, just ask an associate and they will give you samples to try before making the purchase. How fantastic is that?!

2. Bronzer

Bronzers can your best friend! I can’t leave the house without it, or I look like a zombie. Used like blush, it is meant to give a subtle glow. Be careful, because unless you want to end up with an ashy orange look, remember to choose a bronzer that is only about one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Another way to avoid the Snooki effect is to not go overboard- A little goes a long way! Apply it with a large fluffy brush and don’t skip the jawline and neck area. Despite bronzer’s appeal to those with fairer skin tones, it’s also great for darker skin tones, as it can help even out complexions and provide the same glowy, like effect. Here are a few of my favorites for each skin tone!

Light Skin Tones

Snow Bunny by Too Faced is the right amount of pink, tan, and shimmer for fair skin. A light-colored bronzer like Wet n Wild’s Color Icon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana gives a subtle glow and also has SPF 15.

Medium Skin Tones

Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna is a universal shade and compliments medium tones. This is my personal favorite and you can be used all year round.

Dark Skin Tones

Iman’s Sheer Finish Bronzing Powder in Afterglow is ideal.

3. Nude/Flesh Tone Eyeliner

This is a godsend! You will love me forever when you try this! Nude or flesh-toned eyeliner can open up and enhance the eye making you look more awake for those early crazy mornings (How do you think I look so fresh when I show up at 6am for your wedding?!) Rim the inner lash line and your inner tear. You can even use a nude pencil on problem areas on your face (so long as the pencil is flesh-toned), or under the brow bone for a highlight.

Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Nude is my go to. It is inexpensive and great quality.

4. Eyebrows

Eyebrows are easily forgotten and they shouldn’t be! They are the most important feature of your face. Well-groomed eyebrows frame and enhance your face, make you look youthful, and help to create symmetry (said to be the key to beauty).  I treat myself every two weeks to get my eyebrows done by a professional- I deserve it just as you do!

I never do my eye shadow in the morning because I think it takes too much time. My routine for my eyes includes nude eyeliner, mascara, and my eyebrows! DONE! Once you are filling your brows daily, it becomes second nature and you will never leave the house without your brows on!

Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz pencil is my favorite. If you are unsure of your color, always go a little bit lighter because you can always build up the color.

5. My Favorite: Lip Color!

Anyone that knows me knows I am a huge fan of bright lip color. Red, pink, orange, purple, burgundy, you name it. I always encourage my clients to step out of the box and just try a red lip. Nine times out of ten, they love it and want to buy it! It’s lipstick- an inexpensive way to transform your look! Try it and if you don’t like it don’t ever use it again! It all depends on your mood that morning!

If you are not feeling so bold, use a tinted lip balm. It keeps your lips feeling and looking moisturized while adding some natural color to your lips. If you choose my morning routine, you never want to forget about your lips since you are keeping your eyes natural.

Two of my favorite lip options are Maybelline’s Vivid Lip Color collection for bold days and BURT’S BEES Tinted Lip Balm for an on the go look! Both can be purchased at your local drug store!
