Do unto others...

Spring is in the air and with the change of the seasons it is time for my husband’s favorite time of year… the closet transformation. If you can imagine, I have accumulated quite the wardrobe. Right about this time, when it seems as if the weather has changed and isn’t going to revert back to the previous season, I ask my hubs to pull the Rubbermaid bins from the attic so I can switch out my wardrobe. Is this the best method? No, but when your closet isn’t big enough to house your entire wardrobe, those clear bins come in handy. One day my husband says… one day I will have that Sex in the City closet that Big built for Carrie…

So back to the title of this post… ‘Do unto others, as you would like done to you.’ (Or something like that!) I am sure you have all heard this common principle. What does this have anything to do with image consulting? Well, this year I am treating myself like a client… I am treating myself as I would treat others. Its easy to tell yourself that you will wear something, or that a dress is still relevant, but some how when you have another person asking you, you somehow see the light (insert choir singing and bells ringing) and can part with those outdated heels or tops that don’t really flatter you. This is the principle behind the Closet Audit.  I am looking forward to trimming down my massive Spring/Summer wardrobe to a well rounded collection of classic, quality, well-tailored, structured pieces that make me feel fabulous! When going through my wardrobe, I will keep in mind the current trends, but most importantly, each piece will have to pass my closet audit 5 prong test (sorry gals- I can’t give out all my secrets!).

So its in with the flowy dresses and pastels and out with the sweaters! (and out with a whole lot of unworn items! I can see my hubs smiling already- all the less he has to put back up in the attic!)  When transitioning your wardrobe for the new season, be realistic with yourself and toss, donate, or consign those items that keep getting carried forward season after season without use! If your items are in good condition and are current, consigning is a great alternative! I once purchased all of my Christmas presents for my family just off my consign money!  And if you don’t have the heart weed out your wardrobe, contact me for a closet audit! It is truly a rewarding, uplifting experience!
